Advent Week 1 – The First Promise: Jesus

Old Testament Promise
Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.
New Testament Fulfillment
Hebrews 1:3
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

I challenged myself to read the entire Bible this year. I never had before and (to be honest) never had the desire before. In 2021, I did a bible study that showed how the entire Bible points to Jesus. Even the long list of names and detailed rules in the Old Testament has a deep purpose and meaning in telling the overall love story of our Heavenly Father for us. This inspired me to read the entire Bible to see for myself.

Luke 2:12-14
This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Advent is a beautiful time of year for a Christian. It is the reminder of God’s promises to His children. The ancient promises through His prophets, the promise fulfilled in the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and the promises to come in the second coming of our Savior.

Give Thanks Today and Everyday!

Psalm 107:8-9
Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
for he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things.

As we give thanks today for all of our blessings, may we give thanks to the One who satisfies the hunger and thirst of our souls. His unfailing love goes before us to make a way, even when it seems there is no way.

Satisfy: A Thanksgiving Series – Week 3

Psalm 63:1-5
You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.
I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.
Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.
I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.
I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

It wasn’t meant to be this way. The human soul was not designed for unfulfilled longing. When God first created Adam and Eve, they had a complete and unbroken communion with God (Genesis 2). When sin entered the world, all of that changed. Sin created a chasm between humans and a Holy God. Thankfully God sent Jesus to intercede on our behalf and give us the forgiveness of sins. But until we pass to heaven or Jesus comes back, we are still living in a sinful world.

John 4:10 & 14
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
“Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

The woman at the well has always been one of those scandalous characters in the Bible in my mind. Out in the middle of the day, a divorcee five times, and living with a man she wasn’t married to can make her seem unrelatable to many of us. At first, it seemed to me that she was clearly a train wreck in the relationship department. But is she really that different from me?

Satisfy: A Thanksgiving Series – Week 1

Psalm 132:15
I will bless her with abundant provisions;
her poor I will satisfy with food.

Growing up I always knew God took care of me. In Sunday School, it is taught to even the youngest of children that God provides and meets our needs. It wasn’t until I started experiencing his provision for myself that I understood how He truly provides for His children.

In my 20s when there were more bills than money, I saw firsthand His provisions in my life. Times when the math wasn’t correct, and the account should have been overdrawn but it wasn’t. Once children entered the picture, I experienced need on a completely different level. The need for sleep in the early days of nursing and working full time, the need for companionship when marriage got hard and friends were busy, the need for comfort because the pain is so deep not even human touch can quench the ache. It was in these moments I experienced my Provider in an entire new way. He is my Rest, He is my Friend, and He is my Solace. He was the only thing that could satisfy.

New Series Starts 11.07.22!

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭55‬:‭1‬-‭2‬

Have you ever walked away from a party or big social dinner and felt underwhelmed? Like, “that was ok but…. you want to go get some ice cream?”

What is it within us that, although we can be given so much, we are still perpetually unsatisfied?

Join us for a three-week series as we dig into these questions. In this season of giving thanks, feasting, and celebration, may we seek the One who truly Satisfies.
